FAQs

Q?

What do your trees look like?

A.

HCS grows an 18 month tree that averages 6 feet tall with a caliper of 5/8” to 3/4”.  Our trees are fully feathered and are very well balanced.

Q?

Is the shipping expensive if I buy trees from Heritage?

A.

Yes it is.  Sorry about that but we bundle our trees in quantities of 10 and wrap the roots in plastic with a generous amount of mulch around the roots.  Our trees are boxed in 84” boxes that average 135lbs per box.  We ship six boxes to a pallet and these pallets ship common carrier.  We tried to ship our trees bare root in the past but cider trees respond poorly to this treatment.

Q?

Where are your trees grown?

A.

Heritage Cider Supply grows and stores our trees in Central Washington State.  This area of the country is renowned for growing apples and nursery trees and three of the largest nurseries in the United States are located within 20 miles of HCS.

Q?

How do I pollinate these trees?

A.

Pollination is an interesting issue for hard cider trees as they are almost all very late bloomers and have a late harvest.  We recommend using cider trees to pollinate each other as most crab pollinators bloom too early to be of use.  Contact us to work out pollination in your orchard.

Q?

Are some of your varieties more difficult to grow than others?

A.

Yes, each of these varieties has its own quirks but some of our varieties can be a challenge, even to long-time professional orchardists.  Please contact us to discuss this as we want your experience with our trees to be a positive one and fore-warned is forearmed.
